General Summary

The primary responsibility of the master black belt is to deploy and apply lean and Continuous Improvement (CI) tools and methodologies which improve business efficiencies and performance and that support a lean culture within the company.

Essential Job Accountabilities

1. Coach, mentor and train black belts, green belts and lean practitioners on the application of lean and CI tools, methodologies, and competency development, to ensure a pool of skilled and certified black belts.
2. Assist in the implementation of the company’s lean construction and CI program to ensure that methodologies and disciplines are consistently implemented across the organization.
3. Improve capability development of local business units and functional areas, in identifying and implementing opportunities/initiatives for lean and CI.
4. Lead large scale lean and CI initiatives within business functions to streamline processes, eliminate redundancies and improve operational results.
5. Complete special projects as assigned) and assist in delivering centralized training to support the company’s CI strategy.
6. Partner with local leadership to identify lean and CI improvement opportunities and potential talent for CI pipeline.

Experience

• 3+ years’ experience as a Lean or Six Sigma Black Belt
• 6-9 years professional/technical/training experience
• Track record of success in executing and realizing benefits from Lean Six Sigma projects
• Experience coaching black or green belts to certification through successful project realization

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Expert in both Lean and Six Sigma approaches and concepts
• High ability to train and facilitate in a classroom environment
• Proven in-depth knowledge of change management techniques and tools
• Ability to manage Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC) improvement projects, and teams, to achieve successful outcomes while providing business value
• Proven ability in developing employee and/or team capabilities through effective coaching and counseling
• Strong consultative and communication skills (written & oral) and ability to interface effectively with all internal and external stakeholders and effectively disseminate information
• Ability to properly manage and prioritize resources, people and projects
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to provide creative solutions to real-time challenges
• Ability to work in high production environment and respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines
• Team player, with strong leadership skills, who can operate effectively within a matrix management environment
• Microsoft office suite and mathematical statistics skills

Physical Demands

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree and Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt required
• MBA and/or Certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt preferred

• Ability and willingness to abide by Company’s Code of Conduct
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive
• Occasional travel, some overnight, required
