About the Certification:
The LCB-100 certification recognizes Lean Construction practitioners who have completed over 100 hours of Lean Construction learning and implementation. The LCB-100 is an internationally recognized certification and well respected in all the regions that the Lean Construction Blog provides content in (English, Spanish, French, and German). The LCB-100 is a globally recognized standard, considered the international passport for Lean Construction competency. The LCB-100 is based on the same principles as the OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 program from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to promote workplace safety and health and to make workers more knowledgeable about workplace hazards.
The goal of this certification is to separate Lean Construction practitioners who have put in the time, effort, and commitment to further their education and craft. Based on our data, it takes a practitioner atleast 100 hours of study and practice to reach the intermediate level. Once you complete the certification, you are certified for life. You do not need to pay any additional fee to renew your certification.
Certification Requirements:
- Over 100 hours of Lean Construction learning and implementation. You can submit a story of your lean journey and the learning materials that you have used to get over the 100 hours of learning. Materials such as blog posts, podcasts, Youtube videos, books, webinars, online courses, training, and conferences are all acceptable.
- Lean implementation portfolio. You can share pictures and videos of how you have applied lean on your projects.
- Team's testimonial. You can submit a personal testimonial video of your implementation from your team and your manager. Your team should share what you implemented and the impact on the people and project.
- 30 minute interview. All candidates will have a 30 minutes interview with an expert level lean practitioner to go over the lean journey story, portfolio, and testimonials. The interview is the final quality assurance step to ensure the authenticity of each candidate's application. The interview is our way of getting to know you and welcome you to the wider Lean Construction community.
- Cost - The cost of the certification is a one time fee of $450 USD. There are no additional costs or renewal requirements.
- No standardized test - We believe that Lean Design and Construction is a complex field. No standardized test can capture the complexity. We believe that it is more important to showcase what you have learned and how you have applied it on your projects. Lean practices should be adaptive to your project, your team, and your situation. The portfolio allows us to determine your competency and skill level.
Questions
- Why certify 100 hours?
We have learned from experience that the 100 hour mark is the threshold for most people to be competent in Lean Construction and be able to continue learning and applying it on their own. After 100 hours, most people can continuously learn and make meaningful progress on their own. Everyone's lean journey is unique and this benchmark exists to celebrate those who have putting the hard work. - Why certify by hours and effort?
Time and effort is a leveled playing field. Similar to OSHA 30, the LCB-100 guarantees that each candidate has completed atleast 100 hours of Lean learning and implementation. We do not provide an "expert" level lean certification since it is impossible to gauge this. The bar at 100 hours is sufficiently high to ensure quality. - Why don't you have a standardized test?
Lean Construction is complex. Each person will learn and apply Lean different depending upon their role in the industry. An owner will have a different journey than an architect. A general contractor will have a different journey than a tradesperson. There is no one size fits all. No standardized test can capture this complexity and so we let each person approach their journey in a way that makes sense and adds value to them and their company. The portfolio and team testimonial is our way of ensuring quality. Studying for a standardized test can lead to waste and distract from truly value added activities such as deploying and improving lean on your projects. - Why do you require a portfolio, testimonial, and an interview?
Taking Lean Construction courses and learning the concepts are not enough. We require these three in order to ensure that each candidate has implemented Lean Construction within their project or company. The quality inspection ensures that every candidate has surpassed our requirements so that the industry can also trust the certification. - Why certify with the Lean Construction Blog?
The Lean Construction Blog's LCB-100 is the global standard for Lean Construction learning and implementation. It is recognized globally through the quality and high accuracy of the LCB. - For any additional questions please reach out to us.
